Meet the Owner

I Clean Gutters is proudly owner operated, which we believe is a pre cursor to providing a personnel service, which is based on our belief that local, community based businesses provide superior customer service.

In this post we get a chance to meet the owner of I Clean Gutters, Barry Gledhill.

1. So what led you to the gutter cleaning business?

A couple of years ago I was on holiday and the property next door to where we where staying was having their gutters professionally cleaned.

I’m a naturally inquisitive person and was interested to see how they where cleaning the gutters, plus I had been postponing cleaning my gutters at home for months so I thought I might have found a solution to that task.

I spent some time chatting with the team that where cleaning the gutters, as they described the process and benefits of the service I was already beginning to think this might be a good business idea.

On return from my holiday I researched the opportunity in more depth, and 3 months later decided to launch I Clean Gutters on the Mornington Peninsula.

2. How do you actually clean the gutters?

We use a super powerful vacuum which is specifically designed to remove debris from all sizes and shapes of gutters.

The system is also designed to be fully self contained or as we say, “on truck”, which essentially means that all the debris we collect from the gutters is stored in the system on our truck ready for disposal. The key benefit here is that we leave no mess post cleaning the gutters, taking full responsibility for removal from site of all the debris.

3. Why should we think about cleaning our gutters?

We see three primary benefits of clean gutters:

Firstly, a gutters role in life is too dispose of water to an intended destination, be it a water tank or a drain. If they are blocked this disposal of the water from your property can’t occur.

As you’ll appreciate water has a mission to find a path, with the aid of gravity. If the gutters are blocked the water will find an alternate route to leave your properties roof. In these situations it’s highly likely the water will find a path which will cause some level of damage to your property, be it a damp patch on your ceiling, or a leak into your property.

Secondly, in high fire risk areas flammable leaves and debris in your gutters is providing tinder for any leaping flames. By removing the debris you are significantly reducing the propensity of flames jumping across to your property.

Finally, weeds growing out of your guttering is not a great look. We all like to take pride in our properties, clean gutters are a part of a well maintained property.

4. Can your system remove live growing weeds from gutters?

Yes, the system is designed to remove all forms of debris from loose leaves right through to stubborn weeds and the soil supporting these weeds.

5. If I have a gutter guard in place can you still clean my gutters?

Absolutely, it just takes us a little longer, as it’s an extra step in the process.

6. What happens to the debris you remove from the gutters?

As part of Gutter Cleaning Service we collect all the debris in our on truck storage system. We dispose of this as green waste at your local council recycling facility.

7. Is getting your gutters cleaned expensive?

We make every effort to make our service affordable. The costs we quote are based on per metre of guttering cleaned. We are happy to provide free, no obligation quotes so our customers know the exact cost of the job, before agreeing to proceed.

When we quote for your gutter cleaning we take 7 factors into account:

    1. Is the property single story or double story?
    2. Does the guttering have gutter guards in place?
    3. When was last time the gutters where cleaned?
    4. How many bedrooms is the property?
    5. How much debris is in the gutters?
    6. Is access to the property easy, are there any obstructions to reaching the guttering?
    7. Are the downpipes blocked?

8. Do you offer any other services aside from Gutter Cleaning?

Yes, just recently we have added high pressure washing and Solar Panel Cleaning to our services.

9. How frequently should gutters be cleaned?

The frequency varies relative to the surrounding environment of the property.

So for example a property where trees overhanging the roof line, we’d expect to clean the gutters at least twice per year and certainly once in the months leading up to winter.

As a general rule fo the majority of properties we’d recommend an annual gutter clean.

10. Do you offer Gutter Cleaning for Body Corporates?

Yes, we do provide a Gutter Cleaning Service to Body Corporates and Property Mangers located on the Mornington Peninsula.

We currently work with a number of Body Corporates both on annual gutter cleaning of their properties and on a as required basis.
